Dear Colleague
Many of you will know that our colleagues in PCS will be taking strike action this Thursday, 30 June 2011 in defence of pensions, jobs and pay. In Britain PCS is being joined by colleagues in the National Union of Teachers and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers. However PCS members in Northern Ireland will also be taking strike action this Thursday.
The NIPSA General Council agreed to support PCS in whatever way it could and PCS has now provided details of the locations of picket lines across Northern Ireland. These are attached.
NIPSA would encourage as many members as possible to visit the PCS picket lines and to express solidarity with our colleagues in the UK Civil Service.
I would draw attention to a request from PCS that all trade unionists attend the main PCS picket line at Millennium House, Great Victoria Street, Belfast at 12.00 noon.
It is essential that members show their solidarity with PCS especially given the fact that NIPSA members are to be balloted in the autumn for industrial action on the same issues which have led PCS to engage in industrial action.

PCS STRIKE ACTION 30 JUNE
On Thursday 30 June around 250,000 PCS members will go on strike in defence of their pensions, jobs and pay.
On the same day workers in the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, National Union of Teachers and University and College Union will strike over attacks on their pensions.
Around 3,000 PCS members in Northern Ireland will also be taking part in the strike which will have an impact on; HM Revenue & Customs, Identity & Passport Services, the Maritime and Coastguards Agency, British Council, Ministry of Defence, UK Border Agency etc.
There will be picket lines in the following locations;
Belfast
- Customs House, Customs House Square
- Carne House, 20 Corry Place
- Beaufort House, Wellington Place
- Dorchester House, Great Victoria Street
- Millennium House, Great Victoria Street
- Identity & Passport Services, Law Society House, 90-106 Victoria Street
Other locations
- Custom House, Carbane Way, Carnbane Ind. Estate, Newry
- Downshire House, 22 Merchants Quay, Newry
- Abbey House, Head Street, Enniskillen
- Foyle House, Duncreggan Road, Derry
- Fern House, 1a Adelaide Avenue, Coleraine
- Marlborough House, Central Way, Craigavon
All ICTU affiliates are kindly asked were possible to show solidarity with PCS members taking strike action, by visiting our picket lines.
All ICTU affiliates are also asked to support our main picket line at Millennium House, Great Victoria Street at 12.00 noon and to bring along banners and anti-cuts placards etc
