CAMPAIGN FOR REINSTATEMENT OF SACKED TRAFFIC ATTENDANTS

CAMPAIGN FOR REINSTATEMENT OF SACKED TRAFFIC ATTENDANTS

    17/07/2009

In previous NIPSA circulars we reported on the union’s campaign to secure the reinstatement of the Traffic Attendants who were unfairly dismissed by the Company NSL Services Group. This circular is to advise Branches of further developments.

Yesterday NIPSA representatives met with the employer NSL Services Group at the Labour Relations Agency’s offices in Belfast. These direct discussions between the union and the company followed the intervention of the Minister, Conor Murphy.

The NIPSA delegation considers that progress was made at the meeting focusing on the reinstatement of all Traffic Attendants. Both sides have committed to engage in the discussions to find a resolution of the dispute. There were detailed and constructive discussions and it was agreed to meet again next week (probably Thursday 23rd July 2009) to continue the process.

    Support the Protest

While this development was a step forward, the Traffic Attendants will be maintaining their campaign against the dismissals. Their sustained protest, now in its 13th week, is as strong as ever but they do need and welcome support from all NIPSA Branches. I hope that in the coming week Branches will make a further special effort to bring messages of solidarity to the Traffic Attendants protesting outside NSL’s offices in Callender Street, Belfast.
