Dignity at Work
24/06/2010
NIPSA held a very successful Dignity at Work event on 14th May 2010 with over 70 Branch Representatives across NIPSA’s membership base in attendance.
The delegates heard from Michelle Morris of the Equality Commission who looked at the closely related issues of bullying and harassment in the workplace and outlined the protection from harassment afforded to employees under the equality legislation. NIPSA’s Solicitor, John McShane from McCartan Turkington Breen set out the various legal remedies available to attempt to address incidents of bullying and harassment in the workplace. The final session presented by Barbara Martin, Chairperson of the NIC/ICTU Health and Safety Committee, examined the role of the branch representative, including the health and safety representative, in dealing with members who feel their dignity at work has been violated.
For those NIPSA representatives and members who were unable to attend the event I am enclosing a copy of their presentations for your information. I would also like to refer you to the NIPSA Guide on Dignity at Work which can be downloaded from the NIPSA website www.nipsa.org.uk/Home/Equal-Opportunities/Publications
