LEGAL SERVICES
Legal Advice on a Personal Matter
McCartan Turkington Breen has launched a new website containing a special section for NIPSA members. It contains details of the services provided by NIPSA’s solicitors. Members can click here to access the site. Then enter mtb-nipsa when prompted for a password.
Members are entitled to free initial legal advice on personal matters through the union’s solicitors McCartan Turkington Breen on matters such as tenancy, hire purchase agreements, or disputes with neighbours, road traffic accidents, trusts and wills and criminal injury.
Access to this scheme is via the Executive Officer (Membership & Legal Services) at NIPSA Headquarters
Legal Assistance (Personal Injury) Scheme
Any NIPSA member who sustains a personal injury as a result of an accident, whether or not this happens in the course of duty, contracts a disease at work or is injured as the result of negligence of a third party has access to the union’s Legal Assistance (Personal Injury) Scheme.

Legal Advice on Employment Matters
Employment-related matters, which cannot be resolved through the normal union negotiating machinery, may be referred to the union’s solicitors for advice. In all cases this must be carried out through the relevant NIPSA Headquarters Official who will decide if this is the appropriate course of action.

FINANCIAL SERVICES
NIPSA offers financial services for members through an independent financial advisor, Platinum Financial Planning. Members may receive free independent financial advice on all aspects of financial planning, tax efficient savings investments and family protection.
Taxation and Accounting
NIPSA members and their families are entitled to an initial free consultation on all aspects of accountancy and taxation advice as well as reduced rates for ongoing advice with NIPSA’s appointed auditors, Dawson Nangle Tumelty
Retirement Planning
NIPSA members have access to a free personal consultancy service in complete confidence. Platinum Financial Planning
In addition NIPSA holds regular pre-retirement seminars. These are publicised through circulars, NIPSA News and on the NIPSA website.

Group Personal Accident Scheme
NIPSA has arranged a special personal accident scheme which covers all members for accidental permanent injury or death.
(a) Whilst travelling between their home and their official place of work;
(b) Whilst travelling in connection with their employment or on NIPSA business.
(c) If assaulted by virtue of being a civil servant or public servant and against being injured due to a bomb or other explosive device.
In the event of a fatal accident a payment of 85% of gross annual salary will be made.

Membership Benefits Directory
NIPSA provides free of charge to all members a Membership Benefits Directory, which has a number of ongoing offers as well as vouchers to enable members to secure discounts on eating out, hotel and breaks, activity days out shopping.

Welfare Fund
This fund exists to alleviate financial hardship arising in circumstances where assistance is not available through Social Security, the Civil Service Benevolent Fund or other similar sources. The appropriate form can be obtained from Mairead Donnelly at NIPSA Headquarters.
