Public Spending Cuts

08/09/2010

Two open meetings have been organised by the Consumer Council on the cuts in Northern Ireland.

The Consumer Council, like many other organisations, is starting from the premise that there is no alternative to the cuts and that we should all become involved in identifying where cuts should be made.

This is contrary to the Trade Union position of campaigning against the cuts.

As a consequence branches are asked to encourage members to attend in order to make it clear to all those who are in attendance that it is critical that a campaign of opposition to these cuts is organised and that people in Northern Ireland should not be getting into the position of assisting the implementation of these cutbacks.

There is sufficient material on the NIPSA website under the Public Services Defence Campaign to enable NIPSA members attending to make the case for opposition to the cuts and for support for the alternatives to reducing the deficit by cutting public expenditure.

Yours sincerely

BRIAN CAMPFIELD

General Secretary

Two open meetings: Cuts in public spending are on the way – Have your say on what stays and what goes

Thursday 9 September 2010

Cuts in public spending are on the way. We know the NI Assembly has to find £1.2 billion in public spending cuts. There will be tough decisions to be made and the Consumer Council wants you to get involved.

Venue: Cookstown, 9th September and Belfast, 16th September.

Invite Only: No

Now is the time to make your voice heard and help shape how these cuts are managed by government.  Have your say at one or both of our open meetings on how these cuts may affect you, your family and friends.  The Consumer Council will bring your views to the NI Executive Ministers and fight hard for what you believe must stay, what goes and how public services can be improved in the future.
