SUPPORTING THE CAMPAIGN FOR REINSTATEMENT OF SACKED TRAFFIC ATTENDANTS
03/07/2009
NIPSA Branch Secretary circular issued on 30th June 2009 confirmed that the Traffic Attendants’ appeals against their gross unfair dismissals by the Company NSL Services Group are scheduled to take place next week. Branches were requested to provide a strong demonstration of support for the Traffic Attendants by joining the protest organised for next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 33 May Street, Belfast.
Meeting with Minister
Yesterday NIPSA representatives met with the Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy. We pressed the Minister to intervene with the Company on behalf of the sacked workers to seek their reinstatement. The outcome was that the Minister undertook to meet with NSL Services Group as soon as possible next week.
Support the Protest
It is important therefore that this private sector company, the Minister and the Department can see that the Traffic Attendants have the full support of NIPSA Branches from across the civil and public service at this point in the campaign. The General Council is therefore calling on all Branches and members, particularly those in the Belfast City Centre area, to make a special effort to support the Traffic Attendants at 33 May Street when their appeals commence next week as follows:-
Monday 6th July 10.30 am
Tuesday 7th July 09.30 am
Wednesday 8th July 10.00 am
JOHN COREY
General Secretary
