WORKING PEOPLE UNITED AGAINST RACISM

29/06/2009

The Northern Ireland Committee, Irish Congress of Trade Unions (NIC-ICTU) is hosting a major rally at Belfast City Hall on Thursday 2nd July 2009 at 1.00 p.m. to protest at the recent series of racist attacks against migrant workers from Romania, Poland and India.

As well as providing the opportunity for trade union members and the public to show their solidarity and support for migrant workers, the rally will highlight the plight of migrant workers who face other threats to their well being from exploitative employers or others that seek to take advantage of their needs. The trade union movement will also be calling for a structured response from politicians and government agencies to work together with local and migrant community representatives to adequately represent and protect the migrant workers and their families.

We hope that Branches and members will make a special effort to join this short rally on Thursday next to show that the trade union movement and the people of Northern Ireland stand resolutely against all forms of racist attacks and that we welcome the presence of migrant workers and their families.
