Speaking after a meeting of the union’s ruling body Brian Campfield, NIPSA General Secretary commented ……
“NIPSA members have voted decisively in support of strike action. Our members have demonstrated their determination to take a stand against the attacks on their pensions, pay and jobs. Any attack on hard working public servants is an attack on public services.
There are alternatives to the destructive course of action that the government has embarked upon. Instead of forcing additional contributions from the already frozen pay packets of public sector members the government should reform the system of tax relief which involved £22bn of taxpayers money per year going directly to subsidise the pensions of the top earners in the economy. This would be a much fairer approach for the government to take.
As a consequence the NIPSA General Council has decided to call all members balloted out on strike on 30 November.
We will be working with all the other trade unions to deliver the clearest possible message to both the UK Government and the NI Executive that attacks on public service workers are not acceptable and will be resisted.”
