NIPSA Calls on the SEELB to Reinstate 2 Week Summer Scheme
02/07/2010
NIPSA, the leading public service trade union in Northern Ireland, welcomed the decision yesterday of the Western and Southern Education and Library Boards to reinstate the 2 weeks Summer Schemes for Children with Special Needs. NIPSA now calls on the South Eastern Education and Library Board to do likewise and reinstate the 2nd week of their summer schemes so that these vulnerable children can get the full benefits they previously enjoyed.

Alison Millar, NIPSA Deputy General Secretary stated:-
“NIPSA welcomes the decision by the Southern and Western Education and Library Boards to reverse their earlier decision which ensures these vulnerable children and their families receive this vital service.
In doing so NIPSA calls on the Education Minister, Catriona Ruane to provide the Board with the additional resources required to ensure that another service is not cut in a ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’ scenario. In terms of the overall budgets this is a drop in the ocean and can NIPSA believe be found the in extensive overall Education budget.”
