Following a successful protest on Tuesday of this week NIPSA is holding a further protest against the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust proposals downgrade 120 medical secretary posts and make a further 50 redundant. The protest will take place on Thursday, 5th August 2010 at Trust Board HQ, Knockbracken Health Care Park– 12.30pm
Alison Millar, Deputy General Secretary, stated
“Following the very successful protest on Tuesday outside the Belfast City Hospital, NIPSA is moving this protest to the Belfast Trust HQ. Our members are extremely angry at the Trusts proposals to effectively reduce the number of medical secretary posts by 50 and downgrade a further 120 posts. At Tuesday’s protest many of the mainly female medical secretaries said they felt demoralised, undervalued and dispensable. NIPSA intends to take whatever steps necessary to ensure this group of worker jobs and pay are fully protected.”
NIPSA Official, Tommy Brownlee, advised
“Following the protest NIPSA intends to announce the consultation result on escalating the action taken to date. This is not a course of action NIPSA members would take lightly but they believe they have no alternative to ensure they save their jobs and rates of pay particularly in the current economic climate.”
