Public Sector Jobs Must Be Saved

NIPSA the leading public service trade union in Northern Ireland responds to the leak earlier this week from the Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR) which showed 600,000 public sector jobs are expected to be lost across the UK by 2016 with estimates of 15,000 to 20,000 in Northern Ireland.

NIPSA Deputy General Secretary, Alison Millar responded
“It is absolutely essential the NI Executive robustly defend the public sector in Northern Ireland and tell the UK Government these levels of cuts are not possible to implement.
“It is a false premise that reducing the public sector will in some way build the private sector. In a time of a struggling private sector it is essential the public sector is not cut which will take further resources out of the economy.”
