Job Evaluation – Domestic/General Assistants
It is anticipated the job evaluation appeal process can be completed over the summer period with a view to having the process rolled out to this staff group at the commencement of the academic year. Advice on this will be issued to members at the appropriate time.
Classroom Assistants – Job Evaluation
NIPSA continues to press for the job evaluation exercise to be completed. Over the summer period a number of meetings have been scheduled to seek to resolve a number of issues including a Review and Assessment Process; Protection Arrangements; Resources etc. A further update will be provided to members at the beginning of the new school year.
Nursery Assistants – Job Evaluation
Progress on the job evaluation for Nursery Assistants has been slow and agreement has not yet been reached on the job descriptions for this staff group. NIPSA will be bringing together Nursery Assistants in September to review the job descriptions. Members are reminded that the Boards are insisting on a 36 hour pay divisor rather than the current 32½ hour pay divisor. The implication of this is that the hourly rate of pay for Nursery Assistants would either be on a “protected” basis or for new posts on a lower rate of pay.
School Workforce Review
While the Education Minister, Catriona Ruane announced a School Workforce Review in September 2007 no progress has been made on this with the exception of the creation of a Directorate within DE to progress this issue.
NIPSA Membership
I would wish to remind you particularly if you work term-time it is necessary to check, in September, that your NIPSA subscriptions continue to be paid. In the past for some reason some members subscriptions stopped and therefore their membership ceased. NIPSA wish to ensure you are fully protected therefore if you have any queries please ring NIPSA Membership Section on 028 9066 1831 who can advised you on what action you need to take if the Board does not re-start your NIPSA membership subscriptions.
