NJC Pay 2010: Local Government Employers Announce Pay Freeze for 2010/11
20/01/2010
Local Government employers have announced today that an annual pay rise could not be awarded in respect of NJC Pay for 2010/11 due to the “perfect storm” of falling revenues and rising demand, they claimed the move was aimed at protecting front-line services and minimising job losses.

However, news of the freeze was met by outrage from the NJC unions who claimed there had been no negotiations on the 2010/11 pay claim tabled in December, for a rise of 2.5% or £500 whichever was greater.
NIPSA is making contact with the NJC Trade Unions to press for urgent union action, including the likely balloting of members for industrial action. The Public Officers Group Executive Committee in considering the NJC Pay Claim for 2010/11 had already pressed the need for a strong campaign to obtain a fair pay increase for members on NJC pay.
The NJC Trade Unions pay claim detailed a cogent case for a pay increase and took into account that over recent years NJC pay was behind both RPI and other public sector pay awards.
The Public Officers Group Executive Committee will be holding a special meeting as soon as possible to consider a detailed NIPSA response. Further Bulletins will be issued following the Executive Committee meeting and the NJC Trade Unions meeting.
