Branch Organisation

Within NIPSA the individual member is organised into a branch representing his or her particular group or location.  Each branch negotiates either directly on matters of sole concern to its members or through special committees or panels based on the employing Department, Agency or Authority, or on occupational groups.

Each Branch is also represented at the Annual Conferences of its own Group, and of NIPSA.  Accordingly each member, through his or her branch, has a direct say in the policy-making processes of NIPSA.

NIPSA is organised into two main groups; the Civil Service Group and the Public Officers Group.  The Civil Service Group has a membership of over 22,000, which is organised into 153 branches.  It caters for civil servants and the staff of public bodies employed on civil service terms and conditions.

The Public Officers Group has over 19,000 members organised into 69 branches.  It covers employees of Education and Library Boards, Health and Social Services Boards, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, District Councils and a number of other public bodies and voluntary organisations.
