GLOBAL SOLIDARITY

GLOBAL SOLIDARITY – Promoting Solidarity, Equality and Social Justice

NIPSA’s Global Solidarity Committee (previously named the Developing World Committee) was established in 1993 along with the Developing World Fund in order to assist in any part of the world persons suffering from poverty, sickness or distress.

Since the establishment of the Fund it has generated in excess of £350,000. Of this over £340,000 has been donated and contributed to many development projects. In 2006 £42,121 was sent to projects in Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, Nicaraguara and Costa Rica.

This year with the help of our regular contributors, the Fund will be supporting the following new projects:

• Honduras – improving the working conditions and labour rights of female workers in free trade zones

• Malawi – anti-privatisation of Water Boards

• Colombia – rehabilitation programme for trade unionists and their families who have been victims of torture

• Indonesia – translation into Indonesian Bahasi the ICTU Global Solidarity report on Corporate Social Responsibility

• Uganda – Youth Integrated Development programme

You can read more about these projects and other projects the Fund is supporting by clicking on the projects listed opposite.

However support for these projects would not be possible without the continued support from our regular contributors to the Fund. Over 270 members already contribute to the Fund through Give-As-You-Earn and for every £1 contributed by members (who pay tax) NIPSA is able to recover the tax paid to further boost the Fund. We seriously need more donors so that we can continue to fight poverty and social injustice throughout the World. Every little helps!

If you wish to donate via Give-As-You-Earn click here for the Payroll Donation Form.

As well as sponsoring projects, the Global Solidarity Committee issues Newsletters on its work and runs education seminars. Click here for the latest copy of the Newsletter. Details of further seminars will be posted on the website.
